About Eryk
Who is Eryk Bui?
He is Eryk Bui, born in Saigon (Vietnam), raised in small-town Port Arthur, Texas and a new transplant of Orange County, California. His smile will dazzle you and his chiseled physique will leave you in awe. As you get closer to him you begin to realize that there is much, much more to Eryk than meets the eye Eryk graduated from the University of Saint Thomas (Houston) with a degree in Biology. His deep voice resonates with confidence as he fills your mind with his intellectual thoughts and feelings. Anyone that does not like Eryk has to try really hard to pull the feat off. His critics keep looking for weaknesses, but he has none. He is kind, gentle, smart, strong you just can’t help but like the guy.
He was dubbed the multi-cultural bodybuilding phenomenon by magazine writers, but is known by most as the “real” guy that just keeps on getting better and better. He was a print model before bodybuilding and defies his critics by continuing to offer his photogenic qualities even after all of the bulk. Being different can be seen as a hinderance. Eryk sees it as a blessing.
Eryk has never been able to “fit the mold”. As a child he was too different for the Asian kids, and too Asian for the rest of the kids. He was a gifted athlete in high school as he managed to letter in football, track, and powerlifting. However, Eryk is most proud of his academic skills. A National Honor Society member in high school and Dean’s List student in college, Eryk flexes both his brains and his muscles. He learned early in life that sports was more than just a game it became refuge from the cruel world. Instead of succumbing to the negative effects of being different, he adapted and learned to think “outside the box”. He learned to accept the unalterable things about himself and to work really hard at the things that could be improved upon. Most importantly, sports help mold Eryk’s self-confidence. Today, the self-confidence is evident in his stage presence and public speaking skills. He shot his first exercise dvd (Taking Care of Bui-ness) in early November (2004), just two weeks prior to winning his pro card at the Nationals. Wayne and Tina Gallasch of GMV Productions were so impressed with his abilities in front of the camera that they took the pilot taping and made it into a full-blown dvd. Right after the Nationals, Eryk was commissioned by MuscleGallery.com to become one of their models as well.
Eryk has also produced and promoted his own bodybuilding show the 1999 Texas Musclemania & Fitness America Championships. He managed to gain large corporate sponsors and had over 70 athletes competing. It was a success and taught him that anything is possible when you put your heart and mind to it.
As a health and fitness professional, he is looked upon for guidance by many. Adults look to him for motivation and kids look up to him for guidance. He is an efficient problem solver so even the impossible is treated as a challenge. You can count on him he can not and will not walk away. Eryk has written many published articles on exercise and nutrition. He has hosted many seminars dealing with topics such as proper exercise mechanics and nutrition. His website is open for all to see and enjoy.
Some athletes call them fans Eryk calls them friends. Growing up with six other siblings taught Eryk the fundamentals of being competitive. However, it also taught him the importance of sharing and caring.
Eryk lifts weights 4 days per week for about 1.5 hours at a time. To maintain his chiseled physique, he does cardiovascular exercise everyday for a minimum of 60 minutes, incorporating outdoor running with stationary bike riding. No matter how sluggish or tired, the gym atmosphere rejuvenates and brings out the best in him. He attacks the weights with a vengeance and forces his muscles to actively respond with growth. He believes that the key to life and longevity is through constant and consistent physical and mental stimulation that continually breaks down old tissue and replenishes with new and improved tissue. When he engages, Eryk is focused unrelenting with the task at hand and diligent until completion. When fatigue begins to set in he reminds himself that failure is not an option. As a retired IFBB professional bodybuilder, he has learned to refine his game plan to deal with the daunting road ahead. He is not worried. To him a new challenge is just another road that needs to be paved.
Sit back and enjoy the rest of the site. His challenge is for you to try to correlate his trials and tribulations with similar experiences of your own. Eryk truly believes that everyone has at least one wonderful story about them that they can share with others. Just think how much better the world would be if we shared in this way. Eryk sums it up with this quote: “Everyone has something they want to say, but no one is willing to listen. Inspire and motivate; be a role model and help others.

hey, eryk. Its amazing that you have perfected a combination of body and mind which i believe is the ideal bodybuilder and scholar. I’m also vietnamese and my parents are very traditional.so i’m always being pushed in EVERYTHING! I was wondering how you managed to keep your grades up while maintaining a build like yours. I’m a biomedical eng/pre-med and i’m also built for an asian. However, it seems very hard to maintain my weight and maintain my gpa at the same time. My focus is to get into medical school but i don’t want to sacrifice my build at the same time. btw, i’m an undergrad sophomore at Tulane university.

Hello Eryk.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and share your knowledge with me. We have run in to each other a couple times now at th Vitamin Shoppe and if it happens again i’m sure I’ll have a couple more Q’s, but more importantly it would be great to just talk about life and lifting with you, you come across as a wise (for your age) and intellegent, downto earth person. And believe me, I dont meet nearly enough people like that.
Also, thanks again for the Greens. They taste great. Seriously, I was shocked.
Good luck in life and take care friend.

It’s pretty awesome having nutrition as my life. I always tell people when they ask me what kind of supplements to take. Start with the basics and get some whey protein as a body building supplement then if you want, try an EFA stack for weight loss. As always throw in a multivitamin.
